1. Always try shoes on standing up, this evens out the foot pressure.

  2. There should be ample space between your toe and the end of the shoe.(the toe area usually has stiffeners and will not give)

  3. The heel area should be a firm fit.

  4. The bunion joint of your big toe should coincide with the widest part of the shoe (this where your foot and the shoe both bend as you walk)

  5. Leather shoes will mould to your foot, but will not stretch unless a lot of pressure is applied.

  6. Synthetic shoes have less moulding properties

  7. Shoes should be worn for short periods to start with.

  8. Open sandals are easier to fit, with length being more of a personal choice
